Exhibit: "Push Pull Play"

Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Target Gallery presents an exhibition that of interactive and toy inspired art. The work in the exhibition plays with the artists’ different perspective on the art of the toy. From paintings to interactive video installations, the exhibition is bright and engaging, inviting the user to come in and play!

Some of the work on exhibit is interactive, such as Ericka Heffernan’s installation, “Please Build”, which invites visitors to build an installation out of building blocks while following instructions by the artist through a recording. Ashley Blalock’s installation, “To Live is to Leave Traces”, is comprised of hundreds of pink crocheted flowers accompanied by a time-lapse video. Caroline McCatty’s works invite the viewer to animate three whimsical interactive wood and textile automaton sculptures.

The juror, Prescott Trudeau, selected 12 artists to be a part of the exhibition. These artists are from around the country with three from the local DC metro area. The artists include Ellen Benson (PA), Ashley V. Blalock (CA), Phillip Delacruz (FL), Marlene Hawe (VA), Ericka Heffernan (NY), Joel Jonientz (ND), Melanie Kehoss (VA), Caroline McCatty (MD), Christopher Nitsche (GA), Seamus Liam O’Brien (NY), Mallory Sloss (PA), and Alex Waggoner (GA).
