Flash Flood Warning Issued for Parts of Northern Virginia

Alexandria, Huntington, Hybla Valley in Warning area, according to National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia issued a Flash Flood Warning at about 8:30 p.m. for:

Southeastern Fairfax County in Northern Virginia and the City of Alexandria.

The Warning continues Wednesday until 11:30 p.m., according to the NWS.

  • At 8:26 pm EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the area. Up to 1 inch of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 inch are possible. Flash Flooding is expected to begin shortly.
  • Some locations that may experience flooding include: Huntington, Groveton, National Harbor, Annandale, Temple Hills, Oxon Hill, I395 and I495 interchange, Lincolnia, Camp Springs, friendly, Franconia, Marlow Heights, Hybla Valley. Forest Heights and Jefferson Manor.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring, according to the weather service. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
