Flooding Reported On Streets In Old Town Alexandria

With a high tide expected after 3 p.m., tidal flooding is impacting streets near the Potomac River.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Flooding has prompted road closures near the Potomac River in Alexandria Monday, according to police.

Alexandria Police reported temporary road closures from King and Union Streets to Prince and Union Streets. Police may close additional roads if needed for public safety reasons. Cars parked in the closed area may be relocated.

Tidal flooding is affecting Alexandria's waterfront after the region experienced rain Friday into Saturday. The Potomac River shoreline in Alexandria remains under a coastal flood advisory until 7 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service. A coastal flood watch will continue until Tuesday evening.

Inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas, especially around high tide. Forecaster expect tides from two to two and a half feet above normal with the next high tides at 3:15 p.m. and 4:08 p.m. in Alexandria.
