The Lyceum To Reopen With Restrictions In Alexandria

The rest of Historic Alexandria's museums remain closed.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Alexandria History Museum at the Lyceum will reopen to the public at 11 a.m. on Friday with restrictions due to the coronavirus. All other city-operated museums remain closed to the public until further notice.

The museum will operate with modified hours, 25 percent capacity and timed-entry tickets. Exhibit galleries will be open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Public programs remain suspended.

Face coverings will be required for museum staff and visitors, except for children under 10 and visitors with medical conditions. Groups will be limited to 10 people.

Visitors will also be asked to use hand sanitizer or wash hands upon arrival, follow one-way directions and make cashless purchases from the museum shop. High-touch surfaces and restrooms will be frequently cleaned by staff, while hand sanitizer and tissues will be available throughout the museum. Plexiglass shields will be installed at shop counters.

This is the first museum operated by Historic Alexandria to reopen during the pandemic. Closed museums include the Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Alexandria Black History Museum, Archives and Records Center, Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site, Freedom House, Friendship Firehouse Museum, Gadsby's Tavern Museum and Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is expected to open later in the summer.

Tickets to visit the Lyceum are $3 or free for Alexandria residents.
