Massive Fuel Spill Follows Crash On Alexandria/Fairfax Co Border

The dump truck was leaking up to 80 gallons of fuel, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—A two-vehicle crash on the border of Alexandria and Fairfax County resulted in a huge fuel spill Wednesday, according to the fire department.

Around 11:18 a.m., Alexandria and Fairfax crews responded to the crash on South Van Dorn Street near Farrington Avenue. Units discovered the dump truck involved was leaking an estimated 80 gallons of fuel. A hazardous materials team from Fairfax County was called to the scene to contain the spill.

The dump truck reportedly struck a barrier, the IAFF Local 2141 union representing Alexandria firefighters tweeted. There were no injuries, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue says.

It was a busy day for local fire and rescue crews. A tractor trailer overturned and caught fire on Interstate 495 South on a ramp to I-395 North. The crash caused only minor injuries but kept the exit ramp closed for hours.
