Tractor Trailer Overturns At Springfield Interchange: Report

Authorities are responding to a truck overturning on the Capital Beltway.

4:32 p.m. update: The crash scene has been cleared. according to VDOT's 511 traffic report.

2:32 p.m. update: Exit ramp remains closed.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—A tractor trailer has caught fire in a crash on the Capital Beltway at the Springfield interchange Wednesday morning.

The crash happened before 11 a.m. on I-495 south (Outer Loop) to I-395 north at mile marker 57, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation's 511. Traffic cameras from VDOT show the truck overturned and emitting smoke.

Virginia State Police say the driver lost control of the truck when making an exit onto I-395 north, reported WJLA. The driver got out of the truck with minor injuries. Only the truck was involved in the crash.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue sent in a hazardous materials team in response to a fuel spill from the truck, reported WJLA.

The south exit ramp is closed on I-495. Drivers should expect delays in the area.
