Misha's Coffee Looks To Open At Olde Towne Gemstones Location

Misha's Coffee could open where Olde Towne Gemstones operated for over 40 years.

Misha's Coffee is proposing a second location at 6 Prince Street, the site of Olde Towne Gemstones. The Alexandria-based coffeehouse has applied for a special use permit, which the Planning Commission will consider on Tuesday, April 3.

The coffeehouse would sell coffee, beverages, and baked goods but would not roast coffee or bake on-site. No outdoor seating would be available, but the owner may seek permission at a later date. Proposed hours are 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A city staff report supports the application, stating that it will add to the redeveloped waterfront area under Alexandria's Waterfront Plan. The location sits near Big Wheel Bikes, Chadwicks and upcoming development at The Strand and the King Street Waterfront Plaza.

Misha's is located at 102 S Patrick Street, and its products are also sold at Whole Foods in Old Town Alexandria, Vienna and Fair Lakes. The flagship location roasts coffee in-house for patrons to see.

The last business at 6 Prince Street, Olde Towne Gemstones, sold collections of crystals, rocks and minerals. The shop was undergoing renovations when it received an offer to purchase the building, the owner wrote in a Facebook post. "Thanks again to all my friends and customers who have made it possible for me to be here for over 40 years," the owner wrote.
