Power Restored Wednesday to More Than 2,000 in Alexandria

A traffic signal on King Street at 28th Street South is still being fixed. No word if it is related to earlier outage.

UPDATE 1:10 p.m.: Dominion has restored power to more than 2,000 homes and businesses that were without power Wednesday morning in Alexandria.

A company spokesman said an underground cable was the cause, but no further information was available.

Multiple power outages have been reported in Old Town Alexandria, including some traffic lights, Wednesday morning.

Drivers are asked to follow police direction at intersections and report outages to Dominion at 866-DOM-HELP.

Dominion Virginia Power reports that 2,222 customers are currently without power in Alexandria, due to multiple power outages in Old Town, according to a Dominion outage map. The service restoration time for most outages is early afternoon.

The Alexandria Police Department is controlling intersections where needed, mostly along Route 1. If an officer is not present at an intersection with dark traffic signals, please treat it as a four-way stop.

Residents and businesses without power should report the outage by calling 866-DOM-HELP or online at www.dom.com/residential/dominion-virginia-power/outage-center . That link may also be used by the public to check the status of an outage, including the number of customers affected and the estimated time for restoration.

City libraries, recreation centers, and swimming pools may be used as cooling centers during normal operating hours. A list of locations and other tips to stay safe during heat are available at www.alexandriava.gov/73432 .
