New Communications Director Introduced At Alexandria City Government
Alexandria's new communications director was a Norfolk journalist and public information officer for a Texas District Attorney's Office.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The City of Alexandria has named Ebony Fleming as its new director of communications and public information, starting Tuesday.
Fleming has 15 years of experience in communications in the Houston, Texas and Norfolk, Virginia areas. While working toward a bachelor's degree in journalism from Norfolk State University, Fleming worked for WTKR NewsChannel 3 in Norfolk.
After moving to Texas and earning a master's of public policy from the University of Houston, Fleming served as the public information officer with the Harris County District Attorney's Office in the Houston area. She has also served as director of communications for BakerRipley, the Houston region’s largest social services nonprofit serving over half a million residents.

Fleming will oversee the city's strategic communications plan and expansion of its language access program.
"We’re working to build an Office of Communications which tells our City’s story, fosters meaningful relationships in our community, and reaches all Alexandrians where they are," said City Manager James Parajon, who announced the appointment. "We look forward to her leadership in strengthening our vision for creative, accessible, and equitable citywide communications."

The city's previous senior communications officer Andrea Blackford announced she would retire, effective at the end of June.
