Next Drug Take-Back Day Set For Weekend In Alexandria
Have you checked your medicine cabinet lately? You can drop off unwanted prescription drugs for free at the next drug take-back.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The City of Alexandria will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with several drop-off locations. The national initiative, heeded by the Drug Enforcement Administration, addresses the growing concern of misuse and abuse of prescription drugs—intentionally and not.
The four sites will be staffed by the Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria Sheriff’s Office and the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria. Residents can drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs—no questions asked.
The sites include:

The city encourages residents to utilize the drop boxes, as flushing unused medications down the toilet or throwing them away can present safety and health concerns. In January, a permanent drop box location was installed at Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray. Residents may drop off unused drugs year round.
The city holds four drug take-back events each year. Last year the city collected more than 1,000 pounds of unused medication at drug take-back day events. The Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray drop box has collected 300 pounds of medications since it was installed.
