No Jury Verdict Reached In Alexandria 'Werewolf' Murder Case

ALEXANDRIA, VA—An Alexandria judge declared a mistrial in the murder case where the defendant believed he killed a werewolf in Old Town Alexandria last summer.

The jury did not reach a verdict, split between finding Pankaj Bhasin, 34, guilty of murder or not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors will determine next week if another trial will happen, The Washington Post reported.

Bhasin is accused of killing Bradford Jackson, 65, of Alexandria inside the Window Universe store on King Street last July. Police found Jackson with wounds from a box cutter, NBC Washington reported.

Bhasin, reportedly naked, got into a car after fleeing the building. Police found him in the car and arrested him. Bhasin reportedly told police he believed Jackson was a werewolf when attacking him.

Defense for Bhasin pointed to mental illness as a factor in the killing, citing his werewolf claim. Mental health experts testified in court that Bhasin has bipolar disorder. Days before the killing, he was released from a mental hospital and drove to Alexandria.
