Pedestrian Walking On Capital Beltway Killed In Alexandria
Virginia State Police say the victim had been walking in a travel lane and was struck by a vehicle Sunday.
ALEXANDRIA, VA ā A fatal pedestrian crash happened on the Capital Beltway in Alexandria Sunday, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash happened around 12:12 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 495 at the 177 mile marker, which is around the Route 1/Richmond Highway exit. A pedestrian had been walking in an eastbound travel lane facing away from traffic and was struck by a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT.
Police say the vehicle was following the 55 mph speed limit and was unable to stop and avoid striking the pedestrian in the travel lane. The pedestrian died at the scene.

The victim was identified as Ebony N. Madison, 48, of Gwynn Oak, Maryland. It was unclear why the victim was walking on an I-495 travel lane. She was not wearing reflective clothing.
The Lincoln driver, a 75-year-old man from Maryland, was not injured. State police will not charge the driver.
