Photos: Floodwaters Strike At Old Town Alexandria Waterfront

Police are urging residents to not walk or drive through the flooded area of Old Town.

The days of heavy rain have taken their toll on the Potomac River. As a result, areas such as Alexandria are being impacted by rising water levels and flooding through Tuesday.

Photos captured in Old Town Alexandria show just how severe that flooding is. In the images, floodwaters have overtaken the unit block of King Street and Union Street.

The areas of Alexandria near the Potomac River are under a coastal flood advisory through 5 p.m. Tuesday. National Weather Service forecasters warned water could approach the curb near the intersection of King Street and Strand Street in Alexandria. The flooding began even before high tide hit around 1:36 p.m.

Alexandria Police are urging residents to use caution in low-lying areas and to not walk or drive through standing water.
