Police To Run Traffic Enforcement Campaign On 2 Alexandria Roads

Pedestrian-related hazards increase in November as it gets darker earlier in the evening.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—With the end of Daylight Savings Time and the sun setting earlier in the evenings, pedestrian-related crashes become more of a concern. Considering this and the city's Vision Zero initiative, Alexandria Police will conduct a traffic enforcement and education campaign on upcoming dates.

The enforcement is part of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Fall Street Smart campaign. The campaign runs through Dec. 2 and seeks to inform drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists about existing traffic laws and how to share roadways safely.

On two days, officers will be on hand at two locations for high-visibility traffic education and enforcement:

Last year, City Council approved the Vision Zero plan, which aims to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2028. The plan, which identified high-crash corridors, spurred the city to reduce the speed limit on Route 1 between Four Mile Run and Slaters Lane from 35 to 25 mph in August.
