Retailer Athleta Opens On Alexandria's King Street

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Athleta is the latest retail addition to King Street in Old Town Alexandria. The retailer opened at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 607 King Street.

The location was formerly home to La Tasca, a Spanish tapas restaurant that closed in 2020. The new Athleta specializes in activewear for woman and girls.

A grand opening for Athleta will be held Tuesday, Jan. 18 through Sunday, Jan. 23. There will be a raffle featuring local businesses, studios and gyms; prizes will include local coffee, South Block gift cards, 2-month and 3-month gym and studio memberships, and a free year membership to Snap Fitness. Smaller prizes such as free classes, swag and discounts will be given through a "spin the wheel" game during the grand opening. On Tuesday, Toastique will be on site to give out samples and coupons from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Friday, Nando's will have samples and coupons from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday, Fusion Rehab and Wellness will have free consultations, Theragun massages, raffles and prizes from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Athleta under the Gap brand of retailers along with Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic. Alexandria's Gap and Banana Republic locations at King and Washington Streets are preparing to close. Closing sales are being held at both stores in the final days. Douglas Development, the new property owner of 628 King Street, is seeking new retail leases for the space as well as office leases on the second floor.

Store hours for the new Athleta will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. For more information, visit athleta.gap.com.
