Sad Goodbye On Appalachian Trail: Alexandria Mother's Day Photo

This image captures a tearful goodbye between an Alexandria mother and a daughter that went to live on her own.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Whether it's through their personality, looks, hobbies or a combination of everything, daughters become a reflection of the woman who raised them. With Mother's Day 2018 right around the corner, we are celebrating that special bond by inviting Patch readers across Virginia to share their "mother-daughter lookalike" photos.

It doesn't matter how old the kids are, they'll always be your babies!

Alexandria resident Kristin Frykman sent us this photo of a memorable farewell trip with her daughter Charlotte Miller. The two were hiking on the Appalachian trail as Charlotte was about to live on her own.

The photo is taken at the top of the first peak on the Appalachian Trail, near Springer Mountain, Georgia. A few years ago I had brought Charlotte down to Amicalola Falls to start her 1000+ mile hike on the Appalachian Trail, and I had hiked to the first mountain top with her before saying goodbye and sending her off on her great adventure -- alone. The picture was taken by Charlotte as we were saying goodbye and were both quite weepy. I love this picture.

Happy Mother's Day Kristin!
