Sexual Assault Attempt In Potomac Yard Leads To Indictment

A suspect has been indicted for the attempted sexual assault of a woman in the Potomac Yard neighborhood, Alexandria's prosecutor said.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A suspect identified in the attempted sexual assault of a woman in Alexandria's Potomac Yard neighborhood has been indicted in circuit court, Alexandria's commonwealth's attorney said.

On Wednesday, a grand jury from Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington indicted Dykwon Perry, 25, of Washington, DC, on felony charges of abduction with the intent to defile and attempted rape.

The sexual assault attempt happened in the late hours of Feb. 3 in the 2200 block of Main Line Boulevard. Police said a man tried to sexually assault a woman walking down an alleyway. The victim was able to escape, but police did not immediately find the suspect. Police later said the suspect was in custody at the DC Department of Corrections.

The felony abduction charge could have a maximum sentence of life in prison, while the attempted rape charge has a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Perry will be extradited to Virginia to face the charges. A trial date will be set once Perry is arraigned.

Metro Transit Police and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia assisted with Alexandria Police's investigation.
