Some Alexandria Services Moving To New Mark Center Facility

The Alexandria Health Department, Department of Community and Human Services and other services will be co-located at a new facility.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Some City of Alexandria services will begin moving in February to a new Mark Center facility in the West End from current locations around the city.

Alexandria's Department of Community and Human Services and Alexandria Department of Health will be co-located at the new facility, located at 4850 Mark Center Drive, Alexandria, VA. There will also be the city's Permit Center, part of the Finance Department, limited Clerk of Court services and a Neighborhood Health clinic at the facility.

The facility was named Redella S. "Del" Pepper Community Center to honor Del Pepper, a councilmember who served for 36 years before retiring at the end of her term in 2021. The site is the former headquarters of Institute for Defense Analyses, which moved its headquarters to Potomac Yard.

Before the move, the city's health and community services have been provided at different sites. The city government's website states that the new facility "will benefit residents and clients by creating a 'one-stop shop' for health and community clients with seamless transition between related services."

Services from the Department of Community and Human Services will move on different dates in February. From the 1900 N. Beauregard Street location, services moving on Feb. 1 will be AlexandriaWorks, Center for Alexandria’s Children, Early Childhood Division, TeensWork, and Workforce Development Center.

On Feb. 2, services moving from 6101 Stevenson Avenue will include Aging and Adult Services, Alexandria Vocational Services and Developmental Disability Case Management. The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Day Support Program is not moving.

On Feb. 3, services moving from 2525 Mount Vernon Avenue will include Child Welfare, Community Services, Customer Relations, Eligibility Programs and Social Services Fax.

Administrative offices at 720 N. St. Asaph Street will move on Feb. 8. A move date has not been determined for Emergency Services, MH/ID/SA Intake, Outpatient Mental Health and Neighborhood Health at at 720 N. St. Asaph Street.

On Feb. 10, services moving from 123 N. Pitt Street will be the Alexandria Campaign on Adolescent Pregnancy, School-Age Youth Development, and Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria. The Domestic Violence Program and Sexual Assault Program are not moving.

Services moving from 4480 King Street on Feb. 14 will be the Child Assessment and Treatment Center, Parent Infant Education Program, Residential Services Administrative Offices, TRAILS (TRansitioning Adults Into Living Successfully) and West End Wellness Center. The dental clinic is not moving on Feb. 14.

A move date for the city's Opioid Treatment Program at 2355 Mill Road and Substance Abuse Outpatient program will be determined at a later time.

The Alexandria Health Department's services are expected to move from 4480 King Street in March. Within a week of the 4480 King Street closure, the health department will begin moving into the new 4850 Mark Center Drive location. The health department will provide a specific moving date and information on when services will be available again on its website.

Services impacted by the move will be clinical Services, administration, public health emergency management, environmental health services, epidemiology, and population health. As part of the health department's move, City Council will consider approval of a lease agreement with Virginia Department of General Services on behalf of the Virginia Department of Health.

The move date for the city's Permit Center, Finance Department and Clerk of Court services will be Feb. 13. The city's Finance Department will be an additional location providing tax administration and payment services, supplementing the location at City Hall.

There are various public transportation options to get to the 4850 Mark Center Drive facility. DASH Bus routes serving 4850 Mark Center Drive include Line 35 (Van Dorn Metro to Pentagon through Beauregard Street and S. Van Dorn Street), Line 36A/B (Potomac Yard to Mark Center through Arlandria and Parkfairfax) and Line 102 (King Street Metro to Mark Center through Seminary Road/Janneys Lane).

Metrobus routes serving the facility include Line 7A (Landmark – North Fairlington), Line 7M (Mark Center – Pentagon), Line 8W (Foxchase-Seminary Valley), Line 25B (Carlin Springs Road), and Line 28A (Leesburg Pike, serving Southern Towers, not Mark Center).
