Virginia Coronavirus Patients On Ventilators Reach New Low
Patients in the intensive care units, however, have remained in the 200s in recent months.
VIRGINIA — The number of coronavirus patients on ventilators is at a new low, according to data tracked by the Virginia Department of Health.
There are 81 current COVID-19 patients on ventilators, as reported by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association on Monday. VDH has recorded daily numbers of hospitalizations, and patients on ventilators and in the intensive care units since mid-April. April and May had many days with ventilator use in the 200s, but ventilator use has been in the 100s or below in other months. Ventilator use among all Virginia hospital patients is at 22 percent, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
ICU patients, however, have been in the 200s range in recent months. Up to mid-June, ICU patients were generally in the 300s or 400s. ICU patients across Virginia totaled 210 on Monday. ICU occupancy among all hospital patients stands at 77 percent, 10 percent higher than the 2019 average.

On Monday, 690 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Virginia, bringing the cumulative total to 166,828. There were 24 new deaths reported and 3,457 deaths to date, according to VDH.
The seven-day positive rate of PCR tests is 5 percent, the same rate as Sunday. There have been 2,398,111 PCR tests completed to date, an 11,333 increase from Sunday. Positive averages of tests by region include 4.1 percent in the northern region, 4.5 percent in the northwest region, 4.7 percent in the eastern region, 4.8 percent in the central region, and 7.2 percent in the southwest.

Along with providing numbers of new cases, VDH has a breakdown of cases in proportion to the population. Statewide, there have been 167.5 new cases per 100,000 people in the last 14 days. This data is also available on a locality level.
By region, Monday's new cases include 201 in the southwest region, 165 in the northern region, 134 in the northwest region, 111 in the central region, and 79 in the eastern region.
The current 972 hospitalizations remain unchanged from Sunday. The regional breakdown is 217 in the southwest region, 214 in the northern region, 210 in the eastern region, 206 in the central region, 125 in the northwest region. Across the state, 19,096 COVID-19 patients have been discharged to date, as reported by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. No hospitals report difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.

- Fairfax City: 154 cases, 13 hospitalizations, eight deaths; one case removed

- Loudoun County: 7,576 cases, 468 hospitalizations, 129 deaths; increase of 18 cases
- Manassas: 2,014 cases, 132 hospitalizations, 26 deaths; increase of three cases
- Manassas Park: 631 cases, 57 hospitalizations, eight deaths; no changes
- Prince William County: 13,612 cases, 968 hospitalizations, 218 deaths; increase of 56 cases, two hospitalizations and one death

- Spotsylvania County: 2,327 cases, 148 hospitalizations, 47 deaths; increase of nine cases
