Water Main Break Affects Residents, Businesses Around Duke Street

The water main break on part of Duke Street has been fixed. Earlier it closed businesses and flooded the area in front of Beatley Library.

Update: As of 6:43 p.m. Virginia American Water said water has been restored to the area.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—A water main break on Duke Street Monday has affected residents and businesses on Duke Street between Somervelle Street and South Pickett Street.

The break was reported Monday morning in the 5000 block of Duke Street. Reports indicated water flooded in front of Beatley Library, while Shooter McGee's, a business in the affected area, said on Facebook it was closed until the repairs are complete and customers found a closed sign at McDonald's.

Meanwhile residents from Duke Street north to Holmes Run Parkway are seeing impacts to their water service. Virginia American Water estimates repairs would take six to eight hours. Residents in the affected areas may have no water or low water pressure during repairs. Report problems with water service by calling 800-452-6863.

The water main break temporarily closed westbound lanes of Duke Street and redirected traffic to Cameron Station. One westbound lane opened as of 11 a.m.
