Waterfront Operations Update: October 14 – October 20

Waterfront Operations Update: October 14 – October 20

Waterfront Operations relies on volunteers to maintain high quality parks, please visit the Parks and Recreation Volunteer Opportunities for more information on volunteer opportunities.

As we near the end of October the growing season is coming to a close. Waterfront Operations will be focusing on snow removal, planning, equipment maintenance, and large projects over the winter. Since there will be little change on a weekly basis Waterfront Operations will only be updating once a month starting in November.

Upcoming Projects by Park:

All Parks:
  • Mulching will be taking place at all parks over the next couple months.
  • Follow up application of turf amendments in select locations are schedule during the last two weeks of October.
    Fertilizer: MSDS
    Gypsum: MSDS
    Wetting Agent: MSDS
  • Leaf removal will be an ongoing process over the next 2-3 months.
  • Cleanup of driftwood and trail washouts will continue this week.
Founders Park:
  • Capital One Bank is hosting a volunteer day on October 23 and will be working on trails and helping with other maintenance in the park.
  • The center area of the dog park is being monitored, this area is struggling and may require temporary signs and ropes preventing access while it recovers. This would only prevent usage of the center of the dog park, about 20 sq ft.

King Street Park:

  • There will be work on the tide gate beneath the manhole cover in the park. The work will have very little impact on the park and park access. Contact me if you would like more information on this project.
Windmill Hill Park:
  • Clearing of the stream bed near the dog park will continue until complete.
  • Removal of some of the larger plants growing out of the face of the bulkhead.
