The 18TH Annual DC Asian Pacific American Film Fest This Weekend
From May 11th through May 13th, some great films will celebrate the often underrepresented perspective of Asian Americans.

WASHINGTON, DC (April 10, 2018) - The Asian Pacific American Film, Inc. (APA)
announces that our 18th annual film festival will be held on May 11 - 13, 2018 at the US Navy
Memorial Burke Theatre, 701 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004.

APA Film Festival Committee has selected stellar films from the DC Washington Metropolitan
Region and all over the United States that include documentaries, narratives, and experimental

featuring the award-winning documentary “OPEN DOOR” by the acclaimed filmmaker, Sonny Izon.
May is Asian Pacific Heritage Month & Mental Health Awareness Month. In celebration, on
Sat. May 12th 6:30-8:30pm, we welcome Dr. DJ Ida, Executive Director of the National Asian
American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association. In partnership with East Coast Asian
American Student Union and Asian Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health we are proud
to honor Congresswomen Judy Chu and Doris Matsui for their advocacy of mental health and
strengthening AANHPI communities. Join us for a Benefit Concert featuring ‘Live’
performances by Asian American artists/advocates for mental health: Esther Paik Goodhart
(comedian), Keith Miller (bass baritone), Hee Sun Lee (rap artist) and Thomas Knight (Taiko
master/drum ensemble). Proceeds from this benefit concert will support those impacted by
Hurricane Harvey in Houston and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
On Sunday, May 13th, the Smithsonian’s Freer/Sackler Teen Council will premiere short
documentaries produced by 15 students that were mentored by APA Film staff over the course of
a seven-month program with a Q&A panel. An Award ceremony will follow to wrap up another
impressive D.C. Asian Pacific American Film Festival.
D.C. Asian Pacific American Film: APA Film is a non-profit organization founded in 2000.
The D.C. APA Film Festival has a mission to bring attention to creative output from Asian
Pacific American communities. The festival encourages the artistic development of Asian Pacific
American talent, arts, and films in the greater Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Region.
