RESTON, VA — Residents across Reston’s 16 precincts turned out in significant numbers Tuesday to support a statewide constitutional amendment, contributing to a landslide "Yes" vote in Fairfax County during the April 21, 2026, special election.
According to the Virginia Department of Elections, the "Yes" campaign received 1,648,322 votes statewide, while 1,552,408 voters cast "No" ballots.
The amendment, which allows the General Assembly to redraw congressional districts for the remainder of the decade, saw overwhelming support in the Reston area.

The narrow victory was fueled primarily by high turnout in Northern Virginia and the Richmond suburbs, which offset strong opposition in the state’s more rural southern and western districts.
Countywide, the amendment passed with comfortable ease as voters in Virginia’s most populous jurisdiction signaled their approval of the redistricting shift.
According to official results from the Fairfax County Office of Elections, Reston precincts favored the measure by a nearly three-to-one margin, significantly outperforming the statewide average.
Reston is comprised of 16 precincts located primarily within the Hunter Mill and Dranesville Supervisor Districts. Every precinct in the Reston area reported a majority for the "Yes" campaign.

As a result of redistricting, Reston will remain in the 11th Congressional District, but the district will now extend to the state's western border. The new 11th District will include Manassas, Manassas Park, and Front Royal.
On Aug. 4, incumbent U.S. Rep. James Walkenshaw (D) will face three opponents in the Democratic Party primary: Bree Fram, a transgender Space Force officer ousted by President Trump; State Sen. Stella Pekarsky (D-Centreville); and attorney Amy Roma.
The winner of the primary will face Republican candidate Nathan Headrick in the Nov. 3 general election.
Results remain unofficial until certified by the State Board of Elections.
