Late-Night Shooting In Reston Leads To Weapons Charges: Fairfax Police

RESTON, VA — A 43-year-old Reston man is facing multiple weapons charges in connection with a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning in the South Lakes area.

Officers from the Fairfax County Police Department responded around 1:35 a.m., for the report of someone shooting a firearm in the 11900 block of Barrel Cooper Court in Reston. As officers approached the residence, they heard shots coming from inside the townhouse, which prompted them to call for backup.

With the help of FCPD's helicopter unit, the observed that a man who appeared to be under the influence was holding a handgun outside the home. When the man fell to the ground, officers were able to take him into custody. No injuries were reported.

Police took 43-year-old Mark Ellsbury of Reston to a nearby hospital for treatment. Ellsbury was under the influence of narcotics, according to police.

Ellsbury was then taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with four counts of reckless discharge of a firearm in or at an occupied building. He was then held without bond.
