Huge Surprise At Reston Elementary School (Video)
Olympian Maame Biney dropped by her old elementary school to greet cheering kids.

RESTON, VA -- Speedskater Maame Biney did the Reston area proud when she completed in the Olympic Winter Games in South Korea earlier this year, and the local athlete recently brought her trademark smile and laugh to her old elementary school, captured by a heartwarming video you can view below.
Biney, who went to South Lakes High as well, returned to Terraset Elementary School for a surprise visit with students and teachers, according to a statement from Fairfax County Public Schools.
Biney started her skating career at just 5 years of age at SkateQuest in Reston, initially as a figure skater before her instructor suggested she try speedskating instead. In Pyeongchang earlier this year, she competed in the 500 meter and 1,500 meter short-track competition, and was the first African-American female speedskater to qualify.

"A Terraset student in grades K-3 and 5-6 where she was known as Afua, she remembered her time at the school with gratitude and appreciation, recognizing teachers who took the time to build an academic schedule around her training sessions," the statement reads. "Stressing that she was always focused in class, she reminded the students that responsibility is a critical part of their learning process. Biney, who loves chemistry, has a career goal of becoming a chemical engineer."
