2-Year-Old Injured In High-Speed Oakton Crash Dies, 8-Year-Old Still Hospitalized: Report

A young girl who was hurt in the May 17 crash has died of her injuries, according to reports.

OAKTON, VA – A 2-year-old girl injured in a May 17 car crash has died, according to reports.

The 2-year-old was hurt in the crash that also injured an 8-year-old boy and killed her parents, Xiomara Herrera, 30, of Falls Church; and Alejandro Rodriguez Castillo, 27, of Sterling.

The girl died on May 21, WTOP reports.

According to Fairfax County Police, the boy, a friend of the family in the car, remains hospitalized.

Police said shortly after the crash that speed was a factor and that the Mercedes GLA 250 was travelling at 116 mph seconds before it hit a concrete barrier at the Chain Bridge Road exit off Interstate 66, according to WTOP.

The 8-year-old was the only passenger in the car who was properly restrained with a seatbelt, police say.
