• Fairfax Supervisors Restore High School Crossing Guards With $707K Funding Vote (patch.com) — Fairfax County supervisors have permanently restored crossing guards at 10 high schools after a Reston student walking to South Lakes High School was struck by a vehicle, intensifying safety concerns. Reston families and students played a visible role in pushing for the funding and will also be affected by a new county-school task force examining broader pedestrian and traffic safety around schools.
   

• Food For Neighbors Volunteers Collect Nearly 30,000 Pounds To Fight Teen Hunger (patch.com) — Reston-area nonprofit Food For Neighbors just kicked off the new school year by mobilizing more than 850 volunteers to collect nearly 30,000 pounds of food for local school pantries. Based in the Reston-Herndon area and entering its 10th year, the group is seeking more Reston households to join its Red Bag Program to support food-insecure teens across Northern Virginia.
   

• Reston's June Schreiner stars in new horror film (therestonletter.com) — A Reston-born actress, June Schreiner, is earning attention for her lead role in the new horror film "Dark Hollow," now available on Apple TV and Amazon. Schreiner got her start with Reston Community Players before moving into regional theater and film. She says the West Virginia–set story uses horror to explore the human and environmental costs of coal mining.
