Random Acts of Kindness In Reston Can Mean Sharing An Expensive Steak Or Shoveling Snow
From shoveling snow to sharing an expensive steak, Patch readers tell us some of the ways their neighbors have shown kindness to them.
RESTON, VA — Thursday is Random Acts of Kindness Day, which was established to make the world a kinder place.
To help spread the love and encourage random acts of kindness among the Reston community, Patch asked its readers in a Neighbors post and on Facebook to share some of the kind things their neighbors have done for them. Here are some of the responses:
"I want to let everyone know how after the first snow storm, one of my neighbors who is a volunteer fireman, very nicely shoveled snow from my porch and sidewalk. I am a 73 year old single woman who lives alone. So, I greatly appreciated his efforts. He also put down ice retardant so I wouldn’t slip and fall. Thank you!" — Carolyn Holmes, Reston

"I was at a busy restaurant in St. Thomas for Christmas Eve and I had a bar table to myself. A couple came in for dinner and there were no tables left, so I gave them my table and moved to the bar. They bought my extensive steak and wine dinner! It was too generous! Locally, all of my neighbors are very kind, but a recent act was when some siding blew off my house while I was out of town and a neighbor chased it down the street and returned it to my yard. And let me enjoy my vaca without worrying about it :)" — Annie John, Herndon
"Shoveled my sidewalk to my car." — Arleen Pritz Anderson, Fairfax City

"SO many things! Shoveled my walk, brought me food when I was sick, shared their barbecue when I said it smelled good. … I have the BEST neighbors!" — Cindy Day, Fairfax City
"One of my neighbors down the street messaged me — she made too much marshmallow cream and would I want a jar? No need to ask me twice !! It was WONDERFUL!! And it was so kind of her to think of me!!!"— A Attura, Arlington
The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is hosting 2022 Coloring Contest. The deadline is Feb. 17, so there's still time to submit an entry. More information is available online.
Although Thursday is a one-day recognition of kind acts, making a kinder world is a year-round effort. Share random acts of kindness that you've experienced in the comments below.
