Reston Data Center Owner Refuses To Release Names Of Tenants: Report
Data center company CoreSite LLC filed a lawsuit claiming that Fairfax County overreached its authority regarding its Reston property.

RESTON, VA — Denver-based CoreSite LLC filed a civil suit against Fairfax County, saying that it had overreached its authority in asking for a list of tenants of four data centers and an office building it owns in Reston, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The data center company filed the suit on March 8 in the Circuit Court of Fairfax County. The suit claims that the county's tax department has repeatedly requested that the data center company identify the tenants of its property at 12100 Sunrise Valley Drive and their contact information, according to WBJ's reporting.
Letters from the county included in the filing fail to identify how the information would be used. However, the letters cite a Code of Virginia provision saying that local tax commissioners can require taxpayers “to furnish information relating to tangible or intangible personal property, income or license taxes of any and all taxpayers” so the county can “make a complete assessment of any taxpayer's” tax liabilities, the report says.
