The Reston-Great Falls Interior Design Corner:
Décor tips for Thanksgiving and the Holidays

The soft afternoon light was filtering through the maple leaves enhancing a variety of golden hues of the forest. I was very much enjoying my walk in Great Falls Park. As I was hearing in my mind the October song, Autumn, by Tchaikovsky, the beauty of Virginia was shining once more. I find a sense of peace in the fall afternoons that invites me to think and plan- maybe a fall adagio? By now, you know this is my favorite season.
My thoughts wandered towards our treasure in life, family. I started thinking about Thanksgiving and the Holidays. Like you, I want my house to look at its best for the ones I love. In no time, I pictured my perfect family room for my perfect Holidays. With the energy of the Autumn Allegro by Vivaldi, I envisioned my new sectional, two new accent chairs and of course the perfect area rug to ground the room. Suddenly, as sharp as the first notes of the Toccata and Fugue by Bach, I realized that I wanted to do too much. That I was already overcommitted for this fall. Sounds familiar?
Don’t give up on the big plan and get the help you need! A professional interior designer can help you achieve your dream room, your ideal ambience for your family by saving you time, money and stress. We can walk you through small, achievable steps that will make a big difference. While custom upholstered furniture takes from eight to ten weeks, it is an investment that will last for many years to come. Select your favorite fabric and get it going! In the meantime, make changes in your décor that don’t need as much time, such as a new area rug, window treatments, accessories or lighting. They will be here for Thanksgiving to add that special loving touch. However, if you are in desperate need for a new sofa, an express ship program with furniture in stock in neutral fabrics or leather is the ideal choice.

Back from the park, while enjoying my favorite Earl Gray tea in my Reston studio, I continued to work on my custom-made area rug for my new TV room in the basement. It will perfectly match the new marble floor and the contemporary style of the room. Check the next post of the Reston-Great Falls Interior Design Corner to find out more details about it.
