Subtropical Storm Ana: What Does It Mean for Northern Virginia?

Weather watchers are excited this week, after the first tropical storm of the 2015 hurricane season began brewing in the Atlantic.

Subtropical Storm Ana was born and is now heading up the Carolina coastline, according to the National Hurricane Center. As of 8 a.m. Friday, Ana had sustained winds of 45 mph and was located about 170 miles south-southeast of Myrtle Beach, according to the hurricane center.

Could Northern Virginia be affected by Subtropical Storm Ana? You might want to keep your umbrellas handy. A spokesman Friday morning at the National Weather Service office in Sterling says the Northern Virginia area will likely see some “remnants” of Ana in the form of rain and possible thunderstorms Sunday through Tuesday.

  • Saturday: 20 percent chance of showers
  • Sunday: 30 percent chance of thunderstorms
  • Monday: 40 percent chance of thunderstorms
  • Tuesday: 40 percent chance of thunderstorms
