Richmond Police will cut Flock camera data retention from 21 to 7 days, Mayor Danny Avula says (wtvr.com) — Richmond's mayor has ordered police to cut Flock license plate reader data retention from 21 to 7 days and to reconsider the city's contract with the company. City leaders will seek resident input, review oversight and transparency, and weigh alternatives as some Virginia lawmakers push for a statewide ban on this surveillance technology.
   

2. Richmond is rushing to do a solar energy deal. Some officials see 'a lot of risk' (richmonder.org) — Richmond officials are fast-tracking a 25-year solar power deal that would put panels on 39 city buildings and could save at least $12 million, but internal emails show serious concerns about financial and legal risks. City Council gets just about a week to review the complex agreement, even as some members question the rushed timeline and potential exposure for taxpayers.
   

3. Cancer-free Eagle Scout revamps Virginia Ronald McDonald House that helped his family (wtvr.com) — A Spotsylvania teen who spent years traveling to VCU Hospital in Richmond for leukemia treatment has celebrated remission by transforming the Ronald McDonald House courtyard here with new planters and a trellis. His Eagle Scout project honors the place his family stayed more than 100 times and aims to give current Richmond-area patient families a brighter outdoor refuge.
   

4. Youth league builds beds for Virginia children in poverty: 'Love they don't get' (wtvr.com) — Volunteers from the Young Men's Service League spent Saturday in Chesterfield building 30 beds for children in need, part of a broader effort to support families across the Richmond area. Partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, organizers say they're expanding delivery hubs in Henrico, Goochland, Hanover, and beyond, noting that the City of Richmond has a particularly strong need for beds.
   

5. Virginia Tech beats Maryland, moves to 3-0 ahead of ACC play (wric.com) — Virginia Tech's 35-26 win over Maryland was played in Richmond, giving local fans a front-row seat as the Hokies moved to 3-0 under new coach James Franklin. The nonconference victory snapped Maryland's 20-game streak and sets Tech up for ACC play at Boston College next weekend.
