• Surry supervisors, EDA approve final YMCA financing agreemen... (smithfieldtimes.com) — Surry County leaders have finalized a $24.3 million, 20-year loan to build a new YMCA next to the county’s Parks and Recreation Center, locking in a 4.82% interest rate through 2046. Supervisors approved the financing structure in coordination with the Economic Development Authority, with one dissenting vote, after shifting away from earlier plans to use state-backed Virginia Resources Authority funding. 
• USDA Designates 15 Counties as Natural Disaster Areas (usda.gov) — Surry County farmers are now eligible for USDA emergency loans after the county was designated a primary natural disaster area due to severe drought conditions. Local producers can seek credit for replacing equipment or livestock, reorganizing operations, or refinancing certain debts, with applications accepted through May 10, 2027 via their local USDA Service Center.
