Assistance League Members Pack Toiletry Kits and Baby Bundles

Elementary Students and New Moms Receive Basic Essentials

Fourteen members of Assistance League of Northern Virginia met recently to package toiletries and baby items. They packed 200 toiletry bags that were distributed to 5th and 6th grade students at two schools in connection with their hygiene lessons. The toiletry kits contained a washcloth, comb, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush. The members enjoyed the challenge of getting all those items into each bag! This school year, Assistance League has donated 928 toiletry kits to 7 schools.

The volunteers also assembled 54 packages of baby items. The “Baby Bundles” were delivered to a clinic that serves low-income families and contained a hand-made blanket, soft hairbrush, washcloth, burp bib, 2 onesies, and a board book for the new mom to read to her infant, along with assorted crocheted items such as booties and hats. The Hugs Team at Dunbarton, in Bristow, donated most of the blankets and crocheted items. One Assistance League member donated 2 crocheted blankets and another donated cloth blankets, burp bibs and washcloths.

Assistance League members assembled and shared a lot of love in a short amount of time and touched the lives of 250 in the community! That’s why Assistance League members do what they do! To learn more about the nonprofit’s programs and how you can become involved visit ALNV.org.
