Commonwealth Transportation Board Awards Contract for Project in Tysons
The project will involve widening a stretch of Route 7 and reinforcing two twin bridges along Route 7 that pass over the Dulles Toll Road.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) awarded two contracts valued at nearly $49 million for “major infrastructure improvements” at its monthly meeting last week, according to a release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.
One of those contracts was awarded to a project in Tysons Corner that will widen a stretch of Route 7 near Tyco Road and reinforce a pair of “structurally deficient” twin bridges that pass over the Dulles Toll Road.
The three-lane bridges, first erected in 1960, will have their superstructure replaced, and will be widened and raised to provide more than 16 feet of vertical clearance between the bridge and the toll road. The bridges will be widened to 149 feet and will include two lanes of through traffic plus an auxiliary lane and a concrete sidewalk.

Route 7 will be widened to a six-lane roadway 0.6 miles west of Tyco Road “to match the section constructed during Phase 1 of Metrorail’s Silver Line to Dulles International Airport on the south side of the Dulles Toll Road,” according to the release.
The contract is worth approximately $39.9 million, according to the release, which is more than 80 percent of the grand total the CTB is spending on both projects combined. It was awarded to G.A. & F.C. Wagman Inc. of North Dinwiddie, Va., and the full project is scheduled to be completed in May 2018.
