5 Figures You Need to Know About the Silver Line's First Year

Take a look at some of the ridership numbers from the Silver Line's first year, as well as some figures that show the rail line's impact.

The Metrorail Silver Line celebrated its first birthday on Sunday, and its impact on the Northern Virginia region is already apparent.

Take a look at five figures reported last week that show just how impactful the Silver Line has been and should continue to be in the coming years:

  • 9,000: The number of passengers to enter the Metro system at the Wiehle-Reston station on an average weekday in June, more than 1,000 riders ahead of initial projections for the Silver Line in its first year.
  • 34,000: The number of passengers that entered and/or exited the Metro system between all five Silver Line stops combined on an average weekday in June, again exceeding initial projections.
  • 68,500: The number of daily riders projected on the Silver Line in 2025, five years after Phase 2 of the Silver Line is completed, including a new stop at Dulles International Airport.
  • 45 million: The amount of space in square feet in Tysons Corner for which developers have submitted proposals for residential or retail establishments, all in an effort to capitalize on the early economic impact of the Silver Line’s arrival in the area.
  • 200,000: The amount of people projected to work in Tysons Corner by 2050 thanks to the addition of the Silver Line, according to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
