Gannett Splits Divisions into Separate Companies, Both to Remain in McLean

The company's broadcast and digital side will now operate as Tegna Inc., which begins trading on the New York Stock Exchange this week.

Gannett, one of Northern Virginia’s biggest companies and the publisher of nationally distributed newspaper USA Today, has split its broadcast and digital division and its print division into two separate companies, both of which will remain headquartered in McLean, according to a report by the Associated Press.

The broadcast and digital side will now operate as Tegna Inc., and it will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange this week with the symbol “TGNA,” according to the AP. Tegna will now manage the company’s websites, including Cars.com and CareerBuilder.com.

The print side, which will continue to publish USA Today, will keep the name Gannett.
