Russian Policeman in Town for World Games Arrested for Grand Larceny

Ruslan Rizaev, 29, was spotted stealing clothing at the Macy's inside Tysons Galleria on Tuesday evening.

A Russian police officer residing in the Washington, D.C., area for the ongoing World Police and Fire Games was arrested by Fairfax County Police Tuesday evening after he was allegedly caught shoplifting from a store in Tysons Corner, according to the Washington Post.

A loss prevention officer reportedly spotted Ruslan Rizaev, 29, attempting to take clothes from the Macy’s inside Tysons Galleria. He was detained, and when police arrived he was taken into custody and charged with grand larceny.

Rizaev was held overnight in a Fairfax County jail and reportedly appeared before Fairfax General District Court Judge Ian M. O’Flaherty on Wednesday. The judge set Rizaev’s bond at $1,500 and ordered he surrender his passport pending a preliminary hearing next week.

Police told the Post that Rizaev stole items worth “several hundred dollars.” In Virginia, theft of any items worth more than $200 is considered felony larceny.
