NoVA Synagogue Tightens Security After Pittsburgh Shooting

The synagogue in Falls Church is hosting an interfaith gathering on Tuesday to mourn the victims.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Temple Rodef Shalom, a Falls Church synagogue, will hold an interfaith gathering and has security in response to the shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11. The Oct. 27 massacre at Tree of Life synagogue could be the deadliest attack on Jewish people in the U.S.

The synagogue is hosting an interfaith gathering Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova will attend, and all community members are welcome.

"We are deeply saddened and distressed by the news of the shooting at Tree of Life synagogue, a conservative congregation in Pittsburgh, PA," said the synagogue in a statement. "We mourn for the tragic loss of life as we do for all communities who have been victims of violent crimes and acts of hatred."

Fairfax County Police have increased their presence around the synagogue following the shooting. The synagogue wrote in a Facebook post Saturday there have not been threats in the area but it will "remain vigilant" about security.

Police reminded residents in light of recent events to report suspicious activity.

Founded in 1962, Temple Rodef Shalom has become the largest Jewish congregation in the state. It serves over 1,730 households from Arlington, Falls Church, McLean, Vienna and other communities.

Temple Rodef Shalom is located at 2100 Westmoreland St, Falls Church.
