Tysons' Dogtopia Expanding to California

The dog daycare chain has awarded a contract for 13 new locations in Orange County, Calif.

Dogtopia, a Tysons-based chain of dog daycare facilities, is expanding to 13 new locations in California.

The company has chosen Jan Folk, the founder of Orange County’s Orange Dog Foundation, to spearhead the expansion. Target markets in California include Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Anaheim.

Before being awarded the Dogtopia development agreement, Folk organized “Freedom Flights” from Canada that transported abandoned puppies to loving families.

“Jan’s entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with her passion for animals, makes her an ideal candidate to strategically expand Dogtopia in Orange County and we are looking forward to adding new franchisees to our system,” said Dogtopia CEO Amy Nichols.

Nichols founded Dogtopia in Tysons in 2002 and has since grown the company to five company-owned and 23 franchise locations around the country.
