Why Paint in an Age of Photography?
Painter/Educator Fred Markham Presents on Sunday, May 15 at 12:45pm in Oakton

In our age of the photographic image, the act of making a painting to record what one sees seems antiquated and tedious. It requires dedication, patience, and skill in high contrast to the ”selfie” and the hundreds of digital photos we typically take with our cell phones.
What is the attraction to painting, and why would one choose to paint when one can snap a photo with ease?
Fred Markham will explore this question and speak about his relationship to representational painting as a plein air landscape artist and teacher. He will share images and experiences that suggest a deeper level of engagement than one may get with cell phone cameras. For him, painting is a byproduct of an intimate connection with the subject.
