18-Wheeler Strikes Sign On Sidewalk In Vienna: Crime Report

There were injuries involved when a truck slightly went over the curb.

VIENNA, VA—The Vienna Police Department responded to a variety of incidents reported the week of Oct. 12-18, including an 18-wheeler truck going over a curb.

On Friday, Oct. 12, around 8:57 a.m., the truck was heading west in the right lane of Maple Avenue when the incident happened. The truck cut the corner shot and drove over the curb while turning right onto northbound Beulah Road.

The truck hit the pedestrian crosswalk sign and continued going without stopping. There were no other people involved and no injuries.

October 10 between 3:40 p.m. and 6:50 p.m.
A citizen reported that he was approached by a man who advised he was stranded and needed
assistance. The man stated that he had a check for a large sum of money but had no
identification and was unable to cash it. The citizen agreed to deposit the check into his account
and give the man money. Afterward, the citizen realized he had been defrauded.

Shoplifting 18-008379

October 12 1:45 a.m.
An employee reported a man concealed two bottles of wine then left the store without paying for
them. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the man.

Vehicle Tampering 18-008410

500 Block Glyndon Street, NE
Between October 12 at 2:00 p.m. and October 13 at 8:00 a.m.
A resident reported that someone rummaged through his unlocked vehicle. Nothing appeared to
have been stolen.

Fire 18-008439

245 Maple Avenue, West
October 14 1:15 p.m.
Officers responded with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department for the report of a
building fire. Traffic in both directions of Maple Avenue was shut down for several hours as the
crews attempted to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. The fire investigation is being
handled by our investigators and the Fairfax County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Crash 300 Block Maple Avenue, East 18-008489

October 16 6:23 p.m.
Four vehicles were traveling westbound in the left lane of Maple Avenue approaching Glyndon
Street. Vehicle-4 came to a stop for the red traffic light with Vehicle-3 and Vehicle-2 stopping
behind him. Vehicle-1 was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of Vehicle-2. Vehicle-2 then
struck Vehicle-3, and Vehicle-3 struck Vehicle-4.
Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Crash Nutley Street near Maple Avenue, SW 18-008542

October 17 9:35 a.m.
An unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, turned right onto Nutley Street,
jumped the curb and struck a utility pole. The driver continued southbound on Nutley Street
without stopping.
