4th Of July 2024: What's Open, Closed Around Vienna

Most government offices will be closed, and some services will operate differently on Thursday for the Independence Day holiday.

VIENNA, VA — As many families head to vacation destinations, host barbecues and watch fireworks on Fourth of July, many government offices and services will be closed or altered.

Fourth of July falls on Thursday, July 4 this year. Vienna's fireworks happened on July 2, but there are plenty of other fireworks to enjoy around the region.

Here are the openings and closings to know around Vienna and the rest of Fairfax County.

Town of Vienna government: Closed on July 4.

Fairfax County government: Closed on July 4.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Schools and offices are closed on July 4 and 5.

Fairfax County courts: Circuit Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court are closed on July 4 and 5.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers in Northern Virginia will be closed on July 4.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will operate Saturday service on July 4. Routes running on Thursday are: 101,109,151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 574, 605, 615, 622, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 703, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. If a route is not listed above, it does not operate Sunday service. Others will not operate on July 4. See more information on Fairfax Connector's website.

Libraries: On July 4, Patrick Henry Library and all Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.

Metrorail: Metrorail will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. Regular weekday fares will be in effect until 5 p.m. All trips after 5 p.m. will be fare-free, and parking will be free all day at Metro-owned garages and lots. More weekend Metrorail information is available here.

Post offices: Closed on July 4.

Recreation and nature centers: Most Fairfax County recreation centers are open, but the Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Sites are closed on July 4, as are the E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond, and Huntley Meadows Nature Centers.

Trash and recycling collection: In the Town of Vienna, regular waste collection will happen, but there will be no bulk, brush, or yard waste collection. For county collection customers, regular trash and recycling collection will happen on July 4. Residents with private collection services should check with their hauler for any changes.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) with both be closed on July 4.
