5 Fun Things To Do This Month In Vienna

From a medieval-themed mead tasting to concerts at Wolf Trap, there's quite the variety of events going on in Vienna this month.

VIENNA, VA—Summer's going by fast, and there's just a month left to enjoy the season. There are plenty of events going on in Vienna to soak up the remainder of the summer.

There's a mix of free and paid events. Whether you're looking for a happy hour or fun for the whole family, there's a variety of events going on.

1. Summer on the Green, August 4, 11, 18

Town Green, 144 Maple Ave E, Vienna, VA 22180

The free concerts are held all summer May through August on the Town Green. All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring chairs, blankets and picnics but it is recommended that pets stay at home. Alcohol is not allowed at the performances. The remaining schedule is:

  • August 4: U.S. Navy Sea Chanters – choral
  • August 11: The Rockits – classic rock
  • August 18: Chillin’ on Church: Mudlark – rock and blues

2. Men in Tights Renaissance Faire - Saturday, August 5 11 a.m.

The Black Squirrel, 2670 Avenir Place Vienna, VA 22180

Step into medieval times for drinks at the Black Squirrel in Dunn Loring. In honor of International Mead Day, the new restaurant is serving up local meads and medieval dishes. You can also try your hand at cornhole or an Elizabethan era drinking game, or get your face painted. Anyone who dresses in medieval clothing gets 10 percent off their bill.

Meaderies will be on hand to sample meads and find out how the European tradition is making a comeback. Participating meaderies include:

  • Charm City Meadery (Baltimore, Md)
  • Crafted Artisan Meadery (Mogadore, Ohio)
  • Redstone Meadery (Boulder, Color.)
  • B. Nektar Meadery (Ferndale, Mich.)

Andrew Geffken, owner Charm City Meadery will be launching the mead in Virginia. He will be there to talk mead making and distribute samples of Charm City’s Wildflower Mead.

3. Big Screen on the Green and Town Green Celebration

Originally planned for May, Big Screen on the Green will happen Aug. 13. The event will a feature free screening of Disney-Pixar's "Cars" with free popcorn and cake. The film was selected by local residents on social media and through the partnering Club Phoenix Teen Council. The group will offer free popcorn and bottled water, provided by United Bank.

Before the film begins, the Town will serve cake and award giveaways to commemorate the Town Green's 10-year anniversary. The event is free.

4. Chillin On Church, August 18

Town Green, 144 Maple Ave E, Vienna, VA 22180

The second-to-last block party of the summer is Aug. 18. Each block party begins at 6:30 p.m. and features live music, food trucks, beer and children's games. Mudlark, a rock/blues band will be performing. The last Chillin' on Church is Sept. 15. The events are free.

5. Concerts at Wolf Trap, throughout August

1551 Trap Rd, Vienna, VA 22182

There's a fantastic lineup of performers for all musical tastes at Wolf Trap. Here are some of the big names coming to town:

  • Goo Goo Dolls With Phillip Phillips - Aug. 8
  • Dashboard Confessional, The All-American Rejects and The Maine - Aug. 10
  • Lifehouse,Switchfoot and Brynn Elliott - Aug. 13
  • David Sedaris - Aug. 19
  • The Beach Boys - Aug. 20
  • WAR, Los Lonely Boys - Aug. 23
  • Michael Bolton, Dave Koz and Larry Graham - Aug. 30
