Axe Throwing Comes To Mosaic District

FAIRFAX, VA — If you've had a stressful day at work, there's a new way to let off some steam in the Fairfax area. Bad Axe Throwing has opened a location at the Mosaic District, 2985 District Avenue, Suite 195, Fairfax, VA.

The idea seems simple enough: guests try to throw an axe at a target. But sessions start with an axe throwing coach explaining safety rules and how to properly throw an axe. Some people will be able to throw properly right away. Others will see improvement over several sessions.

"Throwing an axe is all about technique," says Kjai Block, an operations manager and chief axe coach with Bad Axe Throwing. "So in about a couple of hours you can see yourself improve."

Bad Axe Throwing is open from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. daily, but you have to book an axe throwing session to use their lanes. A base session gives you access to two reserved targets for two hours with an axe throwing coach. There's a minimum of six people for this option.

Walk-ins times are based on availability and do not come with an axe throwing coach. A grand opening event on Sept. 6-8 will allow guests to try for free.

There isn't an age restriction (aside from the Chicago location), but kids can only participate if staff determines they're strong enough to safely throw. Block says it's rare for someone below 10 to participate.

Bax Axe Throwing can be used for events such as birthday parties, corporate events and bachelor and bachelorette parties. If there's enough interest, the location will form regional axe throwing leagues with potential to compete in World Axe Throwing League events. The facility does not serve refreshments, but guests can bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Originally based in Canada, Bad Axe Throwing expanded to the U.S. and has 39 locations. Its location in northeast DC has been open for about two years. Visit Bad Axe Throwing's webpage for the Mosaic District for more information or to book a session.
