Bird's Nest Ignites In Wolf Trap Fire

Two people were displaced from their home after a bird's nest caught fire.

VIENNA, VA—Two people were displaced after a bird's nest caught fire at a Wolf Trap home on Friday, May 4.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 9:41 p.m. in the 1600 block of Trap Road. The fire coming from the rear of the two-story home was quickly extinguished.

No one was injured in the fire. The two residents had smelled smoke and sounds of popping and cracking, soon discovering the fire on the outside of the home. The smoke alarms activated after the residents had evacuated.

Fire investigators determined the blaze started due to radiant heat from a halogen bulb, which ignited a bird's nest on top of the light fixture.

An initial damage estimate is $70,000. Red Cross assistance was declined.
