Burglar Fails To Escape After Smashing Window In Vienna: Police

The resident reported an unknown man trying to break her back door down.

VIENNA, VA—Vienna Police made an arrest after an attempted burglary at a home Saturday, Aug. 25.

Around 10 p.m., a homeowner had reported an unknown man trying to break into her back door in the 400 Block Tapawingo Road SW. The man managed to break the exterior glass of a double pane window. However, he wasn't able to break the interior window pane and gain entry.

The man fled, but neighbors witnessing the burglary attempt told officers where he was headed. Police found him in the 700 block of Hillcrest Drive SW. The man, 22, was arrested and charged with attempted burglary and destruction of property. He was held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Between August 4 at 12:00 p.m. and August 28 at 12:00 p.m.
A citizen reported some items were stolen from her home while on a trip. The home was
unoccupied at the time of the burglary.

Burglary 18-007104

400 Block Wolftrap Road, SE
Between August 19 at 12:00 p.m. and August 28 at 7:00 p.m.
A citizen reported a burglary and damaged property at his mother’s residence. The home was
unoccupied at the time of the burglary, and it is not known if anything was taken.

Crash - Church Street and W&OD Bike Trail, NE 18-006990
August 24 6:01 p.m.
Vehicle-1 was stopped on eastbound Church Street at the bike trail. As Driver-1 proceeded into
the intersection, he struck Vehicle-2 (a bicycle) as it was traveling across Church Street on the
trail.
Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention

Assault 18-007026

200 Block Locust Street, SW
August 25 between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
A resident advised that she was walking through the area earlier in the evening when an unknown
man engaged her in conversation. At one point the man pushed her left arm, then ran off. Officers
searched the area but were unable to locate the man.

Assault 18-007042
400 Block East Street, NE
August 26 5:44 p.m.
A resident and his dad observed a suspicious vehicle occupied by a young male driver on the culde-sac.
As the men approached the vehicle, the driver observed them and fled the scene by backing
over the curb and mulched area, then almost striking the two men as he drove past them. PFC
Williams located the driver at his home and spoke to him. The two men were advised of the
warrant process should they wish to pursue charges.

Vandalism 18-007071
Red Galanga Restaurant
144 Church Street, NW
August 27 between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
An employee left her vehicle legally parked in the parking lot. When she returned to the vehicle,
she found that it had been vandalized.
