Burglary at Nutley Street Home, Police Report

Police said a rear door was forced open and items were stolen last Thursday night; the residents were not home, police said.

VIENNA, VA -- The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from June 16, 2016 – June 23, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Vienna Police reported that a burglary took place at a local residence last Thursday night. Police say that they found a rear door opened and signs the door had been opened with force at a house in the 700 Block of Nutley Street, SW Thursday at about 7:12 p.m.

The residence had been rummaged through and numerous items were stolen, according to police. The homeowner and residents were not present during the apparent burglary.

Other incidents

Suspicious Event 16-005136: Michaels Store 311 Maple Avenue, East June 16 12:46 p.m. A citizen came to Vienna Police Department to a report a suspicious event that occurred two weeks prior. The female citizen stated she felt she was being followed by an unknown male subject. The citizen was told to contact Vienna Police Department immediately if she saw the male subject again.

Domestic Dispute 16-005143: Park Terrace Court, SE June 16 4:18 p.m. Officers responded to the listed address for a domestic dispute between a female subject and her parents. When officers arrived they determine the dispute was verbal in nature and no physical contact took place. The female subject agreed to leave the residence. All parties involved were provided with information about counseling services.

Assist Other Jurisdiction 16-005152: 8704 Park Street June 17 7:36 a.m. Multiple officers responded to assist Fairfax County Police, Fire, & EMS with a single vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality.

Found Person 16-005166: W&OD Trail and Ayr Hill Avenue, North June 17 5:46 p.m. Ofc. Hylinski was sent to check on a suspicious person along the W&OD Trail. Ofc. Hylinski located the male subject and determined he was a missing endangered person out of Fairfax County. The male subject was transported to the hospital by Fairfax County EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

Fraud 16-005168: Sanoey Circle, SE June 17 6:14 p.m. A resident reported they were a victim of a fraud. The female resident said they sent ITUNE gift cards to an unknown subject in an attempt to purchase a vehicle. Once the unknown subject received the gift cards they requested additional cards to complete the transaction.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated and Hit & Run 16-005172: 100 Block Patrick Street, SE June 17 11:49 p.m. Officers responded to the listed area for multiple parked vehicles struck. Witnesses said they saw a 4-door sedan strike multiple parked vehicles then flee the area. They were also able to provide a partial tag. While Ofc. Hylinski was speaking to the witnesses the suspect vehicle pulled back in to the area. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and Ofc Hylinski detected signs of possible impairment with the driver. The driver of the vehicle was offered stand field sobriety tests, which they failed. The 26 year old male drive from Harte Place, Vienna was arrested for driving while intoxicated and hit & run. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Animal Case 16-005184: Vienna Police Department 215 Center Street, South June 18 9:05 a.m. A citizen brought a stray husky dog to the station. PFC Tremont contacted the Hope Center which informed him the dog was not micro chipped. The dog was transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

Arrest – Trespassing 16-005185: Fresh Market 150 Branch Road, SE June 18 10:32 a.m. Officers responded to the listed business about a male subject who was trespassing. When officers arrived and spoke with the store manager they determined the male subject had been trespassed before. The 52 year old male subject from Old Lee Highway, Fairfax was arrested for trespassing. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Civil 16-005188: Vienna Police Department 215 Center Street, South June 18 1:18 p.m. A citizen reported their vehicle was damaged by a baseball at Waters Field. The citizen was informed the matter was civil and they needed to contact their insurance provider.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 16-005201: 100 Block East Street, SE June 19 12:46 a.m. MPO Nelson was patrolling the area of Maple Avenue East and East Street SE when he observed a vehicle make several traffic violations. As MPO Nelson approached the vehicle the driver fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit MPO Nelson was able to apprehend the driver of the vehicle. MPO Nelson observed possible signs of impairment and offered the driver field sobriety tests, which they refused. The 26 year old male driver from Polk Drive, Manassas was arrested for 3rd offense driving while intoxicated, refusal of an official breath test, driving on a revoked driving status, and attempt to escape or elude law enforcement. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Destruction of Property 16-005203: 200 Block Patrick Street, SW June 19 8:41 p.m. A resident called to report their yard ornament was destroyed overnight.

Suspicious Event 16-005208: 100 Block Center Street, North June 11 2:43 a.m. Ofc. Sterling assisted a citizen with checking the welfare of an elderly friend.

Police Service 16-005210: Vienna Police Department 215 Center Street, South June 19 8:06 p.m. A male and female subject had a disagreement involving child custody issues. Ofc. Hylinski assisted both subjects and resolved the issue.

Animal Case - Quarantine 16-005239: 700 Block Plum Street, SW June 20 2:48 p.m. A resident called to report their dog bit a male subject on the leg. There was no serious injury from the dog bite. The dog was placed in to 10 day quarantine.

Assist Fire/EMS 16-005243: Café Renaissance 163 Glyndon Street, SE June 20 6:54 p.m. Officers assisted Fairfax County Fire & EMS with a medical emergency. The male subject was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but later his condition improved.

Property Found 16-005244: 100 Block Maple Avenue, West June 20 7:49 p.m. A citizen turned in a found wallet.

Narcotics Violation 16-005280: Beulah Road and Creek Crossing Road, NE June 22 1:50 a.m. Ofc. Herrera observed a vehicle make a traffic infraction. When he approached the vehicle he spoke with the male driver and detected an odor of marijuana. Ofc. Herrera did not find a measurable amount of marijuana in the vehicle.

Fraud 16-005299: 300 Block Maple Avenue, East June 22 10:08 a.m. A citizen called to state they had a check fraudulently deposited at a bank.

Animal Case - Quarantine 16-005338: Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE June 23 1:34 p.m. A male technician was bitten on the hand by a dog. There were no serious injuries as result of the dog bite. The dog was placed in to 10 day quarantine.
