Bus Service Input Sought In Areas Of Fairfax County

VIENNA, VA — The Fairfax County Department of Transportation has developed a proposed plan to improve Fairfax Connector bus service in the Centreville, Chantilly, Vienna, Tysons area and is seeking input.

A previous round of community input informed the preferred plan for service in Centreville, Chantilly, Vienna, Tysons and surrounding areas like McLean and Falls Church. The proposed plan seeks to improve on-time bus service and help service meet the needs of the community and commuters.

The plan calls for three new routes: North Tysons-Spring Hill Metrorail Station, Vienna-Reston, George Mason University-Centreville, Random Hills-Pender Road, and McLean-Langley. Changes to existing routes are also proposed.

The plan applies to the following routes:

  • ROUTE 423: CENTRAL TYSONS - TYSONS CORNER METRORAIL STATION
  • ROUTE 427: NORTH TYSONS - SPRING HILL METRORAIL STATION (new route)
  • ROUTE 461: VIENNA - OAKTON
  • ROUTE 462: DUNN LORING - NAVY FEDERAL - TYSONS
  • ROUTE 463: MAPLE AVENUE - TYSONS
  • ROUTE 467: DUNN LORING - TYSONS
  • ROUTE 468: VIENNA - RESTON (new route)
  • ROUTE 610: GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY (GMU) - CENTREVILLE (new route)
  • ROUTE 622: FAIRFAX TOWNE CENTER
  • ROUTE 625: RANDOM HILLS - PENDER DR (new route)
  • ROUTE 630: CENTREVILLE
  • ROUTE 642: AWBREY PATENT FEEDER
  • ROUTE 651: SULLYFIELD
  • ROUTE 660: CENTREVILLE (STONE RD) PARK & RIDE - TYSONS EXPRESS

  • ROUTE 670: CHANTILLY - FRANCONIA
  • ROUTE 671: CHANTILLY - VIENNA
  • ROUTE 680: MONUMENT DR - BALLSTON
  • ROUTE 697: STRINGFELLOW RD - L’ENFANT
  • ROUTE 698: STRINGFELLOW - PENTAGON
  • ROUTE 699: GOVERNMENT CENTER - DOWNTOWN D.C.
  • ROUTE 721: CHAIN BRIDGE RD-Mc LEAN-LANGLEY

Under existing service, the average travel time is 53.8 minutes. Under the proposed plan, it would be 52.5 minutes. Around 340,000 people are within a quarter mile of existing service, and 342,700 would be under the proposed plan. The number of minority residents within a quarter mile of the system would increase from 173,800 to 176,100, and low-income households ($50,000 or under) would increase from 20,500 to 21,000.

Residents can view maps of the proposed plan's peak service, off-peak service, and weekend service.

There are several ways to provide input: at virtual meetings on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7, completing an online survey by Oct. 18, emailing feedback to fairfaxconnector@fairfaxcounty.gov, calling Fairfax Connector at 703-877-5600, TTY 711, or mailing comments to Fairfax County Department of Transportation, 4050 Legato Road, Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22033.
