Author Talk: Barbara Carroll Roberts ("When George Washington Bowed to the New Nation")

The author of A Rose Named Peace presents her latest picture book for young history buffs

Bards Alley is thrilled to welcome local author Barbara Carroll Roberts as she celebrates the release of her new nonfiction picture book When George Washington Bowed to the New Nation. Join us on Saturday, August 15 for a discussion and signing!

Out August 11, the book chronicles George Washington's military career, from his leadership during the eight-year Revolutionary War to his historic resignation in December 1983. It features vivid illustrations by artist Anne Yvonne Gilbert and is perfect for kids ages 8 to 13 as well as curious adults.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Barbara Carroll Roberts's books for young readers include the novels Nikki on the Line, a finalist for two state children's book awards, and The Metamorphosis of Bunny Baxter, a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. Her picture book, A Rose Named Peace, illustrated by Bagram Ibatoulline, was also a Junior Library Guild selection as well as a Texas Topaz Nonfiction Gem. She lives in Virginia, not far from the Statehouse in Annapolis, Maryland, where the historic events at the end of this book took place.
